New pistachio fields are being built in Bobotog
Planting of seedlings has begun in the Bobotog State Forestry in Surkhandarya since early spring. Currently, pistachio seeds are being planted manually on sparsely treed mountain and foothill slopes to expand the forest area. Since the forest area consists of arid lands, a pistachio tree that is resistant to drought was selected.
It is worth noting that the moisture accumulated in the planting areas on the slopes in the autumn and spring seasons facilitates the germination of tree seedlings. Therefore, if this aspect is taken into account and work is organized according to the plan, good results can be achieved in the Bobotog regions as well.
The process of germinating pistachio seeds is also carried out in several stages. The planted pistachio seeds sprout in April. The sprouted seedlings are cared for for three to five years.
The Bobotog Forestry Department plans to plant pistachios on 500 hectares of land by 2025, and pistachios are currently planted on 260 hectares of land in the region.
