THE IMPORTANCE OF PRUNING FRUIT TREES IN WINTER

Pruning fruit trees in winter is very important for their healthy growth and high yield. In the fall, the main energy of the tree is concentrated in the trunk and roots.

If the tree is rid of excess branches during the winter "dormancy", the stored energy is spent on the development of new, strong branches in the spring.

However, these upright branches can block sunlight and interfere with the growth of other branches. Therefore, they also need to be pruned later.

Important recommendations:

• It is advisable to start pruning in late winter, because during the cold winter period, freshly cut branches can be damaged by frost.

• You should start work first with apple trees, then prune cherry, peach and plum trees.
